Mike Toomey, Co-Founder
Mike Toomey, in his 30th year of professional baseball, joined the Kansas City Royals in 2006 as Special Assistant to the General Manager after serving as a Pro Scout for the Washington Nationals and a National Cross-checker with the Montreal Expos. He had been with the Expos/Nationals organization since 2002 after working with Cleveland, San Francisco, Texas and the New York Mets. He also brings a wealth of international scouting experience as he has scouted Japan, Korea, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Canada, Italy and Venezuela. Toomey began his career in Major League Baseball working in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization as a minor league manager from 1980-81. Prior to that, he was the head coach at George Washington University from 1975-79, where he led the Colonials to three-straight NCAA postseason appearances. He has been inducted into the Montgomery Junior College Hall of Fame, the George Washington Hall of Fame and the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Hall of Fame.

Steve Miller, Co-Founder
Steve Miller is in his 8th year as Head Baseball Coach at Archbishop Spalding High School (ASHS) in Severn, MD. He has posted an impressive Win/Loss record at ASHS with 152 Wins and 77 Losses in the very competitive MIAA “A” Conference. Coach Miller has had 34 players from ASHS go on to play collegiately in Division I, II, III and Junior College. He has had extensive experience in professional baseball as a player - six years with the San Francisco Giants organization and one year with the San Diego Padres organization. Steve also served as the Mid Atlantic Scouting Supervisor for the Detroit Tigers. He played collegiately at the University of Maryland where he was an All ACC Shortstop and named ACC Rookie of the Year. Steve played his high school baseball at DeMatha High School where he earned All Met honors and was the 1981 Player of the Year.

Joe Kemp, Director of VertiMax Operations and Physical Conditioning

Joe Kemp is in his second year as Outfielders and Hitting Coach at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, MD. Prior to joining the Archbishop Spalding Staff he spent four years playing in the Texas Rangers organization. Joe played his collegiate baseball at the University of Indiana where he was a four year starter (2001-2005) and an All Big Ten Conference Player. Joe received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana University with a specialization in fitness. He studied under Indiana University’s Head Athletic Strength and Conditioning Coach. In addition to training athletes of all ages up to the professional level, Joe has also had experience in training special clients with high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes and some who were recovering from heart surgery. He did this while maintaining contact with their physicians on their progress and limitations. Joe played his high school baseball in Maryland at Riverdale Baptist.
